Leopold

Leopold The Lion is an extract from my book Nature Calls. His story/poem is longer and more in depth – a story being told – not just silllyness!

The concept and Leo have grown and are now representing themselves (probably couldn’t afford a lawyer – you know how much they charge!) in this picture book. Leopold is a young lion who has an innate sense of destiny and greatness – but when he tells his friends about his feelings, they just laugh at him. “You can’t even scare giraffes!”, they tell him.

Leo moves from confusion and sadness and lack of self belief – to a position of strength and hope as he walks away to ‘find his pride’ with his head held high and his vision of self restored. The poem is intended to speak to children and is trying to express that within each of them is a hero, a king. (Or queen!)
